I'm running low on cast and buying an I-14 is looking a bit too expensive so I'm thinking of turbo-ing my Hobie 16 if it doesn't sell. Here's my idea: I'm going to rig an old windsurfer mast from the dolphin striker to abut 2-3ft past the forestay wire tringle. On the end of this I'm ging to rivet a block for the kite's tack to run through. I'm going to build a bag that will mount under the pole for the kite to get sucked into. Next Im going to rivet a block to the tip of the mast and PRAY hat I can find an old I-14 kite to fit these dimensions. Finally I'm gonna mount some sheet blocks just aft of the shrouds since the kite is gonn be masssssssivve. So what does everyone think? I know it's not class legal (obviously) but it'll be fast as hell. I may also replace and move the shrouds to deal witht the new fowrd loads. Anybody think that's necessary? |

The only thing I can comment on besides the speed aspect is the fact that submarining the pontoons becomes a much greater risk-- Much higher doward forces, and their bouyancy up front is already suspect before doubling the fore-mast sail area and weight....... |
