thanks. why would a red glue seam indicate the boat is light?
gonna go sailing on it with him on friday to check it out and if all goes well i shall be a proud hobie owner this next weekend

as great as it would be to buy a new cat, used is all i can afford. i just wanted to make sure this is a "fair" price before i went ahead and bought it. 1984 Hobie 16 Catamaran 3 sets of sails (one main needs repair). Two are Tequila Sunrise, one set of white New standing rigging and trapeze lines Quick connects throughout Newer tramp on boat with minor rip, and a new one waiting in a box for when it goes. Includes parts box with tons of extra parts: Telocat wind vane, extra mainsheet block, extra hot sticks. Boat now has comp tip mast with Baby Bob, and extra boom. Power downhaul, cooler mount, all the good stuff. Beach wheels included too. Also have some trapezing gear and life vests. Hulls are structurally sound, with just some normal fading (they are blue). trailer + cat box + beach wheels as well. i checked it out and no soft spots. the guy has taken immaculate care of the boat (covered storage, always used beach wheels etc). he's asking 2200. is this typical price for a cat in this condition? |

Sounds good to me - especially if the glue seam between the deck/hull is red. That's an indicator of a potentially light boat. |

The manufacturing process was changed for the 1984 model year boats. The result was they are about 20 lbs lighter. To denote the new process, the glue Hobie used to attach the decks to the hulls was changed from black to red. |

I just bought a 16 and here is what I paid. 1984 H16 W/ Trailer both were in excellent condition. Sails looked new; literally, like they had just come out of the box. The tramp is original, faded, but in useable condition. The tramp lacing lines were replaced last year. The jib travelers were replaced in '03 and now have harken blocks. The hulls had some dings but were all patched. The hull had never been punctured and there are no soft spots. Additional accessories included: 6:1 Harkin mainsail system, adjustable rudder stick, Davis wind indicator, 2 righting systems, 1 floatation cushion, 2 trapeze harnesses, many quality snap shackles and ball-lock pins to ease rigging, 2 pair of sailing gloves, 4 life jackets, 2 hand paddles, books. For all of this I paid $1200. |
