This is to test my pic uploading ability.

Took friends out for a booze cruise & the Hobie went fine! 4 adults +- 650lbs (plus booze), +- 12 knots of wind. You just have to distribute the weight nicely.

Well, I guess it depends what you mean by 'rides'......just getting out on the water to party is one thing....to really sail....well now.

As you know, all boats are designed to a mix of speed/safety/ strength/weight/price etc.

Hobie 16's were designed as production beach catamarans, being lightweight, tough and fast, ideal for a skipper of 150 lbs, and a crew of 135 lbs. While H16's will sail with lighter or heavier crew, one begins to 'stretch' what the vesssel was designed for.

Too light, easier to capsize. Too heavy, she begins to sail like a pig. I have often taken out four adults (including myself), and yes, she sails like a pig, but she will sail - not recommended. In rough weather, with plenty of chop, I can see problems, from lack of control to difficulty in righting from a capsize with four up....have others experienced this too?

I seem to recall reading somewhere that you can put 800 lbs on the H16, not that I would try sailing like that!

We have a Club rule that says 'two adults', otherwise you begin to strain the shrouds, people bump into each other during tacks, people bang their heads on the boom, you sail with hulls under water all the time etc.

Thanks! Just purchased her. She's a 2001 model, one of the last manufacture here in SA but those are her second suit of sails (manufactured by North Sails - Cape Town).
