Is 5200 an acceptable sealent to use on new drain plug housings? I have oredered new ones because the old ones were very brittle and dry rotted. |

I just did this on my 14. West Marine insisted I get a silicone suited for below waterline (and they were spot on). I used BoatLIFE life seal in clear. The other choice was one made by Goop Marine, also clear, also rated for below waterline. The 4200 is suited for below waterline, but note that it is white. |

Thanks for the info I will get some silicone for below the waterline just to be safe. |

I put the new drain plug housings in today with plenty of below the water line silicone. One housing slide in very easily and the other was very tight. I had to give it a little tap with a rubber mallet to get it to seat all the way against the transom. Both housings were the same, is this just a discrepancy between the two hulls and nothing to worry about? |

I might expect a small amount of variation between the two hulls but now that you have whacked it in, it is kind of a mute point. |
