Post subject:  Jib Tightening

So i've recently purchased a 1985 Hobie 16, and I might be missing a few, not so obvious pieces on my forestay / jib / jib halyard assemblies. Forestay is set up just fine, but all i have for raising and tightening my jib is a simple rope halyard through a pulley near the top of the mast. I can see the pulley there is a double pulley, but can't see how that double pulley can be put to use to better tighten my jib.

The result i have from this arrangement is a jib that doesn't tighten up well, leaving all the tension in my forestay, and not enough tension in my jib luft for close upwind sailing.

Anyone have any recommendations for getting a tighter jib? I've heard the pulley system has some of it's own problems.

Thanks,
Andrew

You should also have a pulley at the bottom of your mast, Go around it and then though the pulley on the halyard. Now you have a double perch to give it the extra tightening pull you need.

Is your halyard wire with a rope tail or all rope?

Where is the double block that you mention? At the hoist point on the mast (Aussie system)?
