You might have heard about these boats that have been discovered like a buried time capsule. Now actual pictures of one of the hobie 16's for sale are available. http://TheBeachcats.com/classifieds/catamarans/p11283-new-hobie-16-se.html I'm helping out the Community Sailing Center in Vermont to sell these boats, so I'd be interested in feedback from the Hobie 16 community what your opinion of the price. Is $6,000 too much for a "still in the box" 1988 Hobie 16? No dealer warranty or trailer. I know there have been many changes on the boat during the last 23 years. You can get a new one now at the dealer for what, $9600? What say you? |

But its not a new boat, its a old one that has just never been used. There is a huge diffrence. I'd guess a little more then high blue book retail pricing. If I had to take a guess I'd say 3500-4500 range. |

Yeah I guess resale value is the real issue. As soon as you sail it off the lot the value for a 1988 H16 drops to $2500. |

NADA has one, how good it is I can not say. this is what you get if you plug in 88 hobie 16 with no options http://www.nadaguides.com/Boats/1988/Ho ... -Equipment The boat is pretty much price less as there is no other known boats like it, but at the end of the day, its only worth what some one is willing to pay for it. I saw this boat advertised a while back for 6k, since it has not sold, I'd say the price is too high. |

I doubt if resale will be an important issue for the buyer of this boat, to me whoever buys these does it because they love the Hobie 16 and this is a way to get a boat in perfect condition for thousands less than current production. The story to tell on the beach is worth a couple of grand.

I just bought a brand new, never in the water, 2008 from our locale Hobie dealership for $5900.00. Due to the rain, it's still not in the water |

I would think they would be worth much more as an asset to the Community Sailing Center in Burlington Bay than for whatever they can be sold for. Cat workshops, Races and classes or even club access to the cats like international sailing center does in Mallet's Bay. There are hundreds of people that could enjoy them that could not possibly own them, especially right in Burlington. As an experienced hobie 16 sailor and buyer, I would say $4000 is a fair selling price, considering you can find good condition used boats with trailers and extras for less. $6000, probably a good place to start the negation process... to the right person; wants a shiney unused boat and doesn't care about a warranty or resale or comptip mast, maybe that doesnt sound like much compared to a new new, new H16. |
