What do you use to clean and treat your pontoons? Is there a good cleaner for removing dark smudges (from rubbing against something)? Also, do you apply a UV protectant on the pontoons?

Also, I noticed that some of the silicone(?) caulk around the pontoons is missing. Can you recommend a brand of caulk I should use to reseal the pontoon posts.

Thanks!
Bloome

Not sure what you'd use on a pontoon boat. I would just use regular soap and water on the hulls of my boat though. Might use Spray-9 or Fantastic on stubborn stains.

We just went though this with our locale group. To really get a good cleaning of your hulls, using "Slimy Grimy" boat cleaner and then coat with "Collinite" boat wax.
Both products can be searched for on the net. What our problem at Lake Arthur is you could put you boat in all clean and by the end of the day it looked coffee stained and could not just be washed off. Dave Adams was our test boat and it's working out very well so far.

Buxton... are the stains iron related? Maybe CLR would remove the stains.

Forum search for "oxalic acid" is what you want:

Not sure if it's all iron but CLR was one of our first tries and it hardly touched the stains so we had to go with something stronger. White hulls are of course the worst. Painted hulls have no problem and the stains will get darker on your way home is you don't rinse the boat off before leaving the lake. I've started to take a gal of water with me for rinsing.
