Hey folks. My 28 year old vinyl Hobie tramp has seen better days. It now has 5 or 6 glued on patches and it worries me when I'm putting up the mast that I'll put a foot thru it and get messed up. I thought that while it is not completely unusable I would begin my search for a replacement. I'm willing to put out the extra dough for the real thing, besides almost 30 years of use seems like a pretty good deal. Soooo, I began the search. Catalog says 4 colors to be had. 5 if you consider the white vinyl. Blue, Black, Grey and Turquoise. I called my local dealer that has none in stock, so would have to order one. I said let's do it and order a turq one. He said that he has had one on back order for like 3 months now. He didn't even have a black one in stock. I started calling around and no one seems to have anything but black. I finally called Hobie and even they don't have anything but black. The kid on the line says that Blue had been discontinued but he's sure that they will get some turq ones soon, someday, maybe?
Anyone know what's the real story? Have they shot themselves in the foot by pricing themselves out of the market? No one can afford to keep them on the shelves and now it is practically a custom order to get anything but black. Anyway, looking for some love here. Anybody got a local dealer with stock? I was trying to save shipping by going local, but can't wait until December as my old one may not hold up that long (I might not either).

It MAY be worth speaking to a marine trimmer/upholsterer. If they can do the job, you could probably have any colour you want!

I know that sometimes it sucks not having the "right" bits, but I too have fears about sticking my foot through when stepping the mast. It's a lot of weight on not a lot of surface area.

Looks like http://www.mariner-sails.com/assembly.asp?id=23182 has Black, Turqoise and Gray mesh. No blue showing up. I bought my blue one at Mariner, but that was about 1 1/2 years ago.

For my non-Hobie racing boats these guys have excellent quality, many colors and great prices:

I have purchased both main tramp and wing tramps, both very good quality.

Just remember if you want to class race it needs to be Hobie brand...

I love my blue Hobie tramp, and it too is starting to show it's age. I can't belive they discontinued the blue?

We have had Turquoise instead of the blue for many years. We brought back the original blue for awhile, but they have run out.
