I'm on the search for a Hobie 16 in good shape in Florida. Why does it seem that there are no decent boats available? Every boat that I've gone to see either has soft spots, has been painted, or is in awful shape. I just moved from Indiana where there were loads of nice boats for fair prices. Is it the time of year or is this the way it always is? My theory is that boats n Florida are more worn because the sailing season is longer and people are able to enjoy them more. Am I right? What do you guys think?

That and the weather (hot, sun) take a toll on fiberglass. Salt water eats the aluminum.

Boat used in fresh water and stored indoors for half the year (winter) will last significantly longer.

I will not let this get me down! I'm expanding my search to Georgia!

You might want to check with Pat Martin who owns Starboard Marine in Panama City Beach, FL (850-235-4805). He specializes in fiberglass repairs and has quite a collection of used Hobie, Prindle and Nacra catamarans and used parts.

I bought my 87H14T and 82H16 from him several years ago.
