| Post subject: | Bondo-Glass To Fix Hull? |
Has anyone ever used Bondo-Glass to fix a fiberglass Hobie hull? I've got a couple of small cracks in the bottom of the hull which allow the boat to take on a minor amount of water and was wondering if this Bondo product would work. It appears to be easier to work with than a fiberglass repair kit. Thanks for the help. AE |

Howdy Alan, I used Bondo putty/compound before. But as explained by various paint shops, it is a lower quality compound that is not quite compatible with your better top-coat paints. I sanded the Bondo out and used the recommended Maxum 242 from Evercoat (~$20). It is a two-part glazing compound that is compatible with any top-coat, really easy to work with and is ready to sand within 30 minutes. You get plenty of compound for the price too. I glad I changed to it. Of course, this compound by itself would not lend to structural issues. You might look to glass mat and resin/hardener first. I understand that you have cracks that are not too wide/deep to present strength issues. Hope this helps, Eric |

Hi, use the Bondo reinforced with long strand fiberglass. Its real strong, I use it for fiberglass boat repair. |
