I know I'm going to get a bunch of slack from the purests but my first hobie, my first restore. I had full intentions of gel coating but after spending months sanding old paint and still needed to get it out from under the lip I gave up and wanted to get in the water. Here is where I am so far. when i brought her home ![]() Bad transom needed cut out on both hulls ![]() all glassed up ![]() Found a few soft spots. probably bigger than i should have fixed but i did anyway. i know it looks ugly but it gets better ![]() ![]() sanding fairing and filling.... almost there ![]() Finally one hull in paint: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Nice! Hey, gel is a lot of work. Good paint holds up well sept the bottom and who sees that? I like your attitude and saving that poor hull(s) from the trash. Congrats my man! |

as far as the bottoms go she is not going to be a beach cat. I have a jet ski dock in a secure lagoon that i will pull her on so that should save some paint. paint on plastic should be better than paint on sand. The reason for no beach is that you need a permit to hit the local beach and there is a waiting list years long to get one. She won't be a race boat but a fun toy for the family to play around on in the afternoons. As i get more confident with my sailing I'm sure I'll buy a new boat and think about this racing thing... sounds fun. |
