Post subject:  big wind question

i was out sailing with a friend who has never been on a hobie before. we were having a good time, then some big wind 25 to 30mph came at us. the water is still very cold here in canada so i didnt want to go over. what we did was let both sails totally out and climbed out on the windward hull to try and keep the hull on the water. i thought if i turned the boat into the wind , the wind would get under the tramp and flip us over. the wind backed off and we made it back safely. what would be the best way to deal with these conditions?????

From what you described, you may have done the best thing. Read in the Open Forum the discussion titled "Head up or fall off" for more opinions.

Tipping over backward is normally more a function poor weight distribution than it is the wind blowing you over. I had a new guy out once and failed to mention the weight forward thing and we wheelied back while tacking, all you can do is laugh.
