A buddy of mine and the group FT Moultrie Beach Cat sailors has got me into the sailing bug. Sailing on my friends boat is great but when others wish to go out people get left on the beach  . So I am in search of my own boat and it seems like the 16 is the way to go. Now I found this boat. http://charleston.craigslist.org/boa/2520413331.html Looks good but it sounds like a high price. So my question is if this is a Fair price. |

Looks like a pretty nice boat as long as the hulls are solid and everything is there and ready to sail. You might try to talk him down a bit. I just picked up an '82 in good shape for $1500. Came with just about everything but doesn't have all the bells and whistles like this one (harken 6:1,comptip,EPOs,new tramp). |

Seems a bit high to me. I waited for a while before I bought mine. It was not in perfect shape but thats fine with me. I enjoy working on it and learning terms and rigging. The hulls on mine are in great shape and the sails are OK. I got everything for $800. That includes a traile,r beach wheels and extra rigging & sheets. I will eventually replace some things like the tramp and sails just because. but knowing things are done right (me doing them) makes me happy. EPO is nice but most of the other things he is listing are relatively cheap. Search the for sale forums. The thing is the waiting sucks & I see there's not much else around your area. See if you can get him lower on the other boat and slowly build it up how you want. That's what I would do if it's your first boat. |

I bought the twin of that second boat a few weeks ago for 750, with trailer and other goodies. You can find a better deal if you don't mind a little clean up project. |

If the hulls ARE perfect buy it and get out and sail.... you can spend a lot fixing up little things .. this boat seems complete...take along an knowledgeable buddy to check it out.... perhaps offer a bit less.... |

Search on Craigslist. They have an app for cell phones that alerts you when anyone posts with a keyword you select. I was shocked how many things come up under 'Hobie' when you get to see all of them. Maybe 1 day on average. Many boats get listed for $750-1250, but they sell so quickly you don't normally see them. Most around here are older, but rarely used. Sails are great, hulls are faded! Good luck. |

I was there to pick it up within 30 minutes after it was posted on craigslist. |
