Post subject:  Rudder Toe-in
The H16 I've had for a few months now has excessive rudder toe-in(an inch+!). I'll be shortening the crossbar soon, thich leads me to ask these two questions:
1) If I remember correctly, I read that just a pinch of toe-in is desirable. Why is that? I would think parallel would offer the least resistance.
2) What is the best way to remove the corroded end piece of the crossbar?

I think the spec is 1/8" toe in. Its effectively parallel. You just don't want it toed out. Most old boats have more than 1/8" slop anyway in the castings, pins and stuff.

As for the crossbar ends....forget it. Once they are corroded in place you might damage the bar itself before getting them out. I sawed mine off with a hacksaw and used a metal rod to drive the stub back into the bar a few inches and just bought new ones. I used an impact driver to remove the set screws.

Toe in is a short xbar, so shorter is more toe in.

Toe out? Maybe the rudders are mounted left on right / right on left That would make the tiller xbar seem too long and cause toe out.

The trailing edges of the rudder are to close to one another.

Trailing edge would be the "heel" (rear), so toes would be out if heels are closer together... Toe out.

Check that the rudder tiller arms angle inboard if the rudder blade is aligned with the hull... If not, swap the rudder assemblies left - right.

Leading edges (toes) should be closer together by 1/8- 1/4"
