Post subject: | Solid Tramp |
I've been viewing and reading a lot on this forum, great forum!, but never have seen this subject before, I decided to chime in. My existing tramp is near death, dry, crackles under weight and I feel very uncomfortable while raising the mast. So I had a thought, I've always wanted a solid wooden tramp, maybe 1/2" or 3/4" marine ply mounted loosely underneath frame, just above the hulls where the pylons go into hulls, this would allow for twisting and flexing of the Hobie. If inside rails had something mounted just right, this would also allow for a backrest on those low wind, day long sailing and should I be flying a hull or two, it would help keep things on the tramp like sheets, drinks/cooler, people. I've seen where guys have mounted wood ontop of the frame, but I wouldn't do that to a Hobie. Of course the wood would be sanded and painted a pretty blue to match my hulls, being red/white, timely appropiate. Any ideas or comments? MBounds, would this be racing legal? ![]() Thanks and good winds to all! |

The trampoline is a major stiffener for the frame, so not having it tight, not there... would allow the boat to flex and move in a way that is not preferred for performance. The tramp is also up high to keep you out of the water, so mounted on the hulls, you would be dragging in the water at times. I'd guess not class legal and not a performance enhancement. |

I knew there was something technical I was missing! Anybody got a used tramp for sail? Thanks MMiller. |

What if you took a piece of ply wood and cut it a few inches smaller than the square frame then laced the ply wood to the frame. You would drill holes around the edge of the wood to run the lacing lines through. It would stiffen the boat because it would tighten like a standard tramp and it would still give a little and you would get your solid tramp. |
