I guess this is more intended for Matt but if anyone has the dimensional drawings of the H-16 it would be great.

Here is what i have in my stupid little head.... I want to build a remote control H-16 at about 1/8th scale. since the big restore job is done I miss the smell of fiberlass and i need something to tinker with the help clear me head at the end of the day. I could go out and measure what i have but why re-create the wheel if i don't have to.

From everything I've ever heard, the only drawings for these boats were made in the California sand about 40 years ago. Otherwise, they were hand shaped by a couple dudes based on what "looked right" with no actual paper drawings to go by.

Even if there were drawings, I highly doubt Hobie would release them to the public as they would be intellectual property/proprietary info. I think you'll have to pull measurements off your boat and scale them.

I understand proprietary and assumed that would probably be the case but you never know unless you ask.

There's a guy on rcgroupsforum that made a rc Hobie 18 that looks really cool.

Dumas made/makes a wooden Hobie 14 model, but it's awfully small for RC. They're all over eBay for about $25.

A real problem with RC catamarans is the lack of righting moment. Most of them have fin keels that stick down from the trampoline area.

Otherwise, they are really squirrelly to sail - they blow over very quickly.

i might have the blow over figured out... gyro from a RC copter with ballast tanks in each hull. As the gyro "activates" it would pump from one tank to the other. From the start it would already have most of the fluid in the windward hull. If nothing else I would have a real cool model of my boat.

You're not going to be able to move fluid fast enough to counter a gust.

Here's a project for you - finish my Illustrator drawing of a Hobie 17. Here's what I've got so far:

It gets really cold here in winter, and I needed something to sharpen my AI CS5 skilz. I just realized that I could do the CF pattern / logo / edge curvature gradients on the EPO rudder, too.
