Post subject:  Hobie 14 hardware on 16' hulls?

Bought a old Hobie 14 for very cheap recently. Sails, tramp, trailer and all the hardware is in good shape but both hulls have very large soft spots all over. I can get a set of 16' hulls that look good with no soft spots at all. Is it possible to switch out the hulls without major modifications?

THanks for the info.

Tim

Short answer is no.

14 is narrower and shorter. Some parts (like the corner castings and rudder castings) are the same, but the extrusions are different lengths. Sounds like you bought a parts boat.

That's what I was afraid of...I won't lose any money parting it out, but would have rather got it out on the water.

Thanks again for the info.

Depending on where you are you'll find another H14 relatively cheap pretty easily, turnaround on those is pretty high from what I can tell because as a lot of us get older we also get bigger (fatter for some, I know I'm not the only one) and the H14 won't hold much weight, plus boaters get "2-foot-itis" easily and almost always want something bigger.

H14's sell on Craigslist here in West Michigan for 300-600 all day, H14 turbo is a different story.

Here's one- best deal I've seen but unknown hull condition- You would have a great parts inventory! Where are you?

Too bad the hull switch can't be easily made from H16 but there are still many H14s around...

Knowing where members are is easily remedied by putting your location in the 'User Control Panel' under 'Profile'... I really wish admins would make this part of the signup process... Please? :|
