I am 230 and my wife is 150. So combined we are 380lbs so very close to where you and your son would be. You will never be competitive in a race and the boat will be a little less perky but you will be ok for fun sailing. How you manage your weight on the boat in heavier winds will be critical. Think about stepping up to a 18 if you get a chance. The 18 has more buoyancy in the bows and would be more fun for you two. (IMHO) |

I've had my wife and 3 kids on my 16 with me before. That's about 590 lbs. We sat prettly low in the water and didn't go very fast but it worked just fine. I agree with the comment about the 18. I used to have an 18 and it can handle 3 adult men with no issue at all. |

The Wave, and Getaway have much higher capacities. 800, and 1000 pounds. Different boats, but maybe something that will work for you. |

A Hobie 18 or a Getaway would really be better choices. Hobie 16's are quite weight sensitive. sm |
