I am trying to get the Hulls off of my 16 so I can paint them easier. It is a really old boat and I have tried beating on the casting after removing the bolt. I am scared to hit that cast aluminum much harder unless someone can tell me that I can either really whack it, or if I should use some type of solvent, or of course any other suggestions. |

Thanks, I will give it a shot. I would like to know if anyone out there has actually broken or damaged that corner casting trying to get it off. That might give me an idea of how hard I can smack it. |

I removed my hulls for winter storage, by using a 2x4" lever and fulcrum to gently pry and separate them. I cut a few pieces off the 2x4" to make the fulcrum a good height, then set a 4 ft length between the fulcrum and a horizontal edge on the corner casting. Prying down on the lever lifted the corner casting up the pylon. I have to alternate between the front and back doing about 1/2" to 1" at a time or they'd get jammed. Be ready to catch and support the hulls when they come free. Mine probably aren't as stuck as yours because mine have come apart every winter. Letting the penetrating oil like PB Blaster soak in for a day or so should help also. |

Please, these are not pontoons. This is not a pontoon boat. Yikes. I admit I am a bit sensitive about the use of that word. When I hear it I envision big ugly party barges floating around the lakes in Indiana. The Hobie is a thing of grace and beauty. These are hulls. Its like the difference between Rosie O'Donnell and Halle Berry. Rosie is a barge. Halle is a Hobie. Woot! Hope I don't offend, I'm just sayin....... |

Many, many moons ago, we pulled up to Raccoon Lake in Rockville, IN with the 16. An old farmer walked up to us and said, "That's a nice coupla' boats ya got there". They are hulls. |
