I already see the obvious. Needs new Ropes, Missing 1 set of Trapeze wires. Sail looks shot. Yes, missing the Jib. Needs some cleaning on the hull. I have not seen this 16 personally. Told there were no soft spots. I did not ask, that was offered.

My Question, Does any of you see something that is jumping out at you.

Looks pretty good to me assuming the soft spot comment is accurate. Looks like it was well cared for and mainitained, and from the looks of it complete

She is missing the Jib and no trailer.

Aluminum has been painted. Recently. What were they hiding?

Trampoline is marginal. The hiking straps are long gone, it's not double-grommeted, and it's probably super slick and stiff. It that a gouge I see on one of the photos?

The fairlead is missing from the traveller cleat.

The main traveller is coming apart.

There's a scuff or repaired damage to the deck lip, just aft of the port bow on the outside.

Trailer?

If no trailer, and sails in that condition, it is a $400-$600 boat in CA.

Hulls and tramp look fine, but check the bottoms for wear.

I hate paint! I would rather see worn aluminum. But that's me.

And to think I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me!!!!!!

If I can swing it, there is another 16 I am looking at that has a newer sails (2005 Model) Harken 6:1 Blocks, plus I think the rigging may be in better shape. Plus it has a trailer. Figure combine the both and hopefully have about $1000.00 tied up before I spend money on stuff that needs replaced (Tramps, Ropes, etc).

I asked what they were wanting, They said $800.00. Figure I would offer 4-500 for it. Worn Out Sail, No Jib, No Trailer, etc etc.

Right on -I painted my tramp and rudder casings etc because I liked the black better than aluminum so I do not think that is an out and out show stopper - for the right price it is a good looking boat

Add up the cost of replacing:
Sails
Sheets
Blocks
Tramp
Standing rigging (because you'll need it for the new sails)
Trapeze wires
Re-drilling the rudders for the new sails and rigging (there will very likely be more mast rake with the new stuff and the rudders will have too much weather helm)

And that's before you've checked for loose rivets, bolts, and corrosion. Then consider how aggressive you (want to) sail before sinking money into a fixer-upper.

Fresh paint on old boats and cars in so-so condition makes me suspicious.

I have already located another 16 with newer sails and updated blocks. But the hulls are trashed. Take the good and combine.

Bought a hobie 1970s hobie 16 last fall for 450. It has everything you need to sail and a trailer. Not in the best condition takes in a little bit of water after a long day at the lake but that's wha I get for 450. With no trailer and job don't go over 500 for it
