Thanks for the responses. After watching that video I'm wondering if I should have gotten a wave! Looks like a blast

I actually have a bob on order and have been debating the foils. Thanks, now back to reading and learning until I can get out and do the real thing !

I think you have just about out grown that wave.
Don't you feel the need for more speed and to trap out?

You can NOT sail solo in a 16 or 18 in wind 25 mph & up?

Your right no 16,18,20, or 21 would go out solo in 25mph, unless they are trying to prove something. But they will go out with 2 in those conditions.

But in 15-20mph I will go out solo no problem, and being going much faster than a wave. So we don't need those 25mph days to scream across the water.

I only said something, because I see you have so much talent on that wave, that I could see you sailing the 16 or 18 on that extreme edge you like to hang off. And I'm sure your videos would be intense, even though they already are. I say you have the best Wave sailing videos on youtube. I watch em, all the time.

Hi guys and girls. I'm new to Hobie Cats and one main question. I was on vacation and took a wave out for the first time. First time sailing any kind of boat much less a catamaran. I loved it and didn't find it that hard ti figure out the basics. I bought myself a used Hobie 16 this year and am getting ready to put it in the water for the first time. What I'm really wondering is what kind of difference am I going to find compared to the Wave ? After reading A LOT on the forums It seems that capsizing and pitchpoling are regular occurrences. I never felt the fear of that happening on the wave. Is there that big of a difference ? I'm on a fairly big lake in Central Ontario, not ocean water or anything like that. Just want to know what I'm in for, besides the obvious FUN ! Thanks in advance.

First, you'll have a jib to control as well. I do go solo on my 16 on mild days, it's doable solo. Since I'm not racing, I always wait until complete my tack before switching the jib and take off like a rocket when I do.

The main difference is SPEED. The 16 is also less forgiving to mistakes. Get a mast bob and anti pitchpole hydrofoils.

I would LOVE a 16 but it's just not in my budget at this time.

One time a squall hit so it was either scream and flail about or use the skills I've learned over the years and make it to shore safely with me and the boat in one piece. So, are you 1. A scream and flail about type or 2. Do you use what little skills you have to survive?
