Post subject: | Mast Tension |
Bought a 79 Hobie this spring and have sailed it the past couple of weeks...only pitch poled it once so far.........questions is....not sure on how much tension should be on the wires when setting up?.......jib wire is in third hole down and side mast wires is in the 3rd hole also..........but when setting up how much tension should be on all the wires....( l know that there should be no tenion on jib wire when jib is up ) ..........should mast be raked back farther ( ie. move mast wire down lower and raise jib wire )........another question is that my boat seems to be able to go up wind more than the neighbours boat.........BUT seems to have more of a tendencey to pitch pole........is this because my mail sail is not raked back as far.........ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.......THANX |

I bought my 79 about a month ago. Came very close to burrying a bow numerous times one day. After that, I added another 7 (or 10) hole adjuster to the forestay so I could get my side shrouds down to the bottom holes. Seems much better now. As far as I know, all my stuff is original, and I now use the 2nd or 3rd hole from the bottom on my side stays. I can't say I noticedany difference in pointinghigher into the wind. |
