I just ordered a H16 refit kit from ebay which includes both halyars, sheets and lacing lines... I noticed the main halyard in kit measures 27'.... With the mast being 26' tall will it be enough?? It states to be for a pre-comp mast tip....I have the comp mast tip! How will it differ? thanks! |

You will not be able to use the halyard. Pre-Comptip halyards were 54 feet long - 27 feet of wire and 27 feet of rope. The rope just ties into a thimble at the end of the wire. Comptip halyards are also 54 feet long - but 2 feet of wire and 52 feet of rope. They are specially made with a wire/rope splice at the "latching slug" so it feeds through the mast head pulleys. |

The cleats on the mast are not designed to handle the load of the main halyard. It must be clipped in to the latch at the top of the mast to secure it. You need a Comptip halyard. |

I live 5 min from Kike's shop and thats were Im ordering all the other misc hardware I need and cant find anywhere else. Dont wanna spend a fortune on a main halyard. I think I can make it myself with a nico press sleeve, an end stop swag and a foot of cable spliced into the line. I have the tools. I just measured an old frayed main halyard that I have and it is 53.5" of line and exactly 12 inches of cable. Maybe the line was originaly 54' with 12" of cable. Ill give my splicing skills a shot! |
