Post subject:  Rigging the Mast on Hobie 16

I have a 1983 Hobie 16 which I am re-rigging. I need to know
which hole in the mast vang to attach the forestay, the shrouds, and the trapeze wires.

I currently have the forestay in the lower hole, the shrouds in the middle hole and the trapeze wires in the top hole. With the shroud adjustment on the pontoon in the top hole the forestay is still about 8" short of connecting to the yolk.

Please advise someone out there.

Here's the way mine is rigged:

The shrouds and forestay go on the huge shackle with its pin in the lowest hole of the mast tang. Tie up the pin with some SS safety wire for extra security.

The trap wires go on the curved portion of the smaller shackle with the shackle pin through the top hole of the tang and the curved portion of the shackle through the middle hole. This helps keep them from getting kinked up backwards when the mast is lowered/raised.

This arrangement shoud make your forestay reach a little closer to your "yoke", or bridle. If it's not enough, add another seven hole chainplate to the bridle. Many people who run a lot of mast rake do it this way. Also, it could just be that you have newer (shorter) shrouds, but not a newer (longer) forestay.

Hope this helps...let us know how it goes!
