I just got a new boat, and I noticed something my older boat didnt have. This new one has 2 sets of bridles (I think). What exactly is the difference between the two/what purpose does each serve/which is better/why is it there? Arent those the trap wires? Black coated right? Bridle wires are the ones that go from one hull tip to the other and connect to forestay and jib tack. |

no sorry I did not mean to say bridles. I meant to say the... hmm I cant recall what it is called, but it is where the jib line runs through, they have the cleats. On my boat there are 2 different models/types. |

U mean the cam cleats with flairheads? One in the crossmember and one in the traveler, per side. I noticed u had one in the traveler car itself. New hobies have this same setup only newer and no sheave in the track car like yours. Second option: U may also consider the trentec traveler cars (molded plastic) and some new bullet blocks. The sheet will go from traveler car to jib clew block, back to traveler car block and then thru fixed cam cleat in crossmember. This will eliminate the cam cleats in the traveler cars and adjusting will be at the fixed cam cleats in crossmember near mast. |

Alex, I only understood part of what you were saying lol. I am still very new to sailing, so you gota explain a bit more for me ![]() You are saying the cam in the traveler is in newer models? why does mine have 2 cams and whats the purpose of each? |

The one in the traveler car is to adjust the sheet pull to the jib while the one fixed on the crossmember is to adjust the traveler car angle in relation to the jib...slides in and out on the track. looking at the pic u provided all u need is some new style cars with the cam cleat assembly in them. that will adjust the sheets and some new cam cleats to replace the ones fixed to the crossmember to adjust the traveler car on the track. maybe some new cheek blocks, located on the front frame castings (corners) thru these the traveler car control lines pass and route back to the fixed cam cleats in the crossmember. |

I still dont understand what your saying. I understand what the older style one in the traveler is for (it is to tighten jib/switch sides, I know this cause my older one had this one) but I am still confused what the other one is for. It may be your terminology that I do not understand. ![]() thanks for any help ![]() |

i dont have the diagrams handy as in scanned on my comp, but go to p. 24 in the Hobie Cat Catalog, or find the section on Sail Trimming in the online brochure. Under the Sale Title Jib Traveler Trim Kits it displays the Swivel Cleat system you have. Rig it up that way, remembering the line between the jib traveler cars (the ones on sliding tracks) are connected with some type of bungie. Its actually a pretty decent system for an older cat, which I believe is what you had, from reading in other posts. My 16 only came with the lame and janky jib traveler cars that you gotta pull the pin to move. Yeah, those work "wonderfully"... As you are just getting into sailing, there is no reason to upgrade to Lance cleats, and i think alex mentioned alot of other stuff that does help to streamline, and is useful, but you should get a feel for what you have first. |
