I finially got a good weather window to paint my H16. I used the Interlux Brightsides single part "poly" paint. And I ended up with a great finish! Not one run or sag anywhere! And the gloss is fantastic! This stuff sprays on so thick I didnt' think it was going to go through the gun. It says to only thin 10 percent, so I only gave it a spash of reducer. I guess it does pay to read the instructions, just don't tell my wife!!!!!!!!!! And to everyone else that's afraid to paint, try it! |

berryboats, get us some pics. I am preparing to paint my boat and have recieved info regarding the brightside paint not providing nearly the finish of the 2 part perfection paint. I would love to see how yours turned out as I've been leaning toward using the 2 part perfection. |

Ok! The tramp is going back on the hulls tomorrow night. Then back on the trailer. I'll take photos before she goes back in the barn. Any name ideas for a bright red Hobie? Red Rocket? I've used two part poly paint on aircraft, Awlgrip I think was the name. Very expensive and a little touchy to use. I was just shocked how thick and heavy this Brightsides went on with out a sag and a really nice gloss. Maybe I'll change my mind when I get it in the sun tomorrow, but it looks real good right now. Can anyone give me the process to put pics on this forum? Thanks! |

Interesting. Awlgrip is one I ruled out due to it being hard to work with. I got this info from some DIY types that have used it. Both recommended Interlux perfection as being very "user friendly". A painter told me the Interlux is actually designed for DIY'ers and for rolling and tipping. |

I used the Interlux Perfection on our Boston Whaler 18' console a few years ago and highly recommend it. Its been sitting out in the sun for two years and it still as shinny as the first day...no buffing or waxing...it just leveled like smooth glass, no orange peel whatsoever. I have used many automotive urethanes before an for piece of mind on a boat hull Perfection is money well spent. On the other hand with my experience I would easily go with Awlgrip. Perfection is a modern coating when Awlgrip has been in market for many years under industrial applications probably with the same formula and fewer upgrades to UV etc etc. I wont be using any of these on my H16 as I will go with a gelcoat/duratec coating....this will be in a couple of weeks when I finish fairing etc. I do believe that if u have gelcoat as base go with gelcoat if u can....dont cover it with "paint". And on a 16' hull as a hobie the extra effort of spraying gelcoat is well worth it... |

DANG! Very nice. Got a customer who sent me a picture of his 18 with bright yellow hulls. He also painted the mast and boom. If you've got some paint left over, I'd suggest painting your mast and boom that color too. It would look very sharp. Brian C |

Ahh... I missed that post. The copy he sent me is slightly bigger. It really is a nice shot. I get a ton of pictures sent to me. I'm thinking about setting up a gallery on the shops website since we got 10 gajillion bytes of storage and throughput. Definitely a winter time project. Brian C |
