Post subject:  1982 Hobie 16 Resurrected and back on the water !
Thanks for all the forum info and encouragement to get my new/used Hobie 16 back on the water!

I found her sitting on a trailer in my neighborhood and bought her for only $300. Despite the missing sails, no rudders, stained tramp, broken jib block and rusty, undersized trailer tires, I got a great deal!

I've been sailing since I was 10 on San Francisco Bay and grew up on the Gulf Coast flying hull on a Hobie 16 since 1974.

Needless to say, after a "dry spell" of being land-locked in Atlanta - I just had to go sailing!

Thanks again to the forum and to all you newbies - YOU CAN DO IT!

Mine is an 80 with yellow hulls, does that count for the club?

Sure... and we are all yellow in some form.. mine being yellow decks with white hulls! "The rescued and resurrected 80'something's hobie 16's club"

I have an new/old 80's something H16 too. What a great deal I got. My friend gave her to me. I just had to drive from south FL to Nashville to get it. She is in pretty bad cosmetic shape. It gives me hope that I can fix her up and learn how to sail her. I only have experience sailing mono hulls. I want in the club too!!!

Welcome to the Hobie Community Elizabeth. You'll find a very warm and friendly bunch here online and in person. Find some sailors in your neighborhood and they'll be happy to take you under their wing.

Be patient with your restoration of your Hobie and watch Ebay closely for parts and pieces. Great prices on used parts...beats paying retail!

to the guy who posted this thread, or anyone, really, it looks like this trailer has no prop to support the mast in back. it looks like the mast is just secured to the trampoline frame (proper term?) at the back. is this okay? the trailer i got with my hobie has a lot of rust, and though it has a rear prop for the mast, the part of the prop that is supposed to come out to allow the boat to slide off the trailer is rusted in. i was wondering if i can just cut if off and tie the mast down to the boat itself in back.

Sure. Pad it with a throwable or buy a fiberglass mast support. Murray's sells them.

i don't suppose a throwable is just a bunch of wadded-up beach towels? because, if so, i already have a throwable, and the other thing sounds expensive.
