Picked up my Hobie last weekend :D , unfortunately I am not going to have time to sail it until next summer :( . It will be left outside this year for the Ontario Winter and I was thinking about removing the tramp. Is removing the tramp and getting it back on a difficult task?

Not that big of a deal. Untie the lines, unlace the 3 sections and slide them out of the rails. Installation is the reverse.

A little silicon spray never hurts.

Slide the tramps out of the forward crossbar first. Then the side rails. The rear lace strip is simple and can slide left or right. If the tramp is wedged in the tracks (Sometimes it wedges and gets stuck), push the tramp rope into the track first then slide out. I use a big blade screw driver and poke the rope in all along the track.

I hate using hydrocarbons on vinyl/rubber/plastic. For lubrication, we use dishwashing soap, the fluid kind, (Dove, Sunlight etc) in very small quantities in the tracks that the tramp slides into. Very small. It cleans, lubricates, and then washes off without damage.

For winterizing our club boats, we remove all sails, the tramps, put them inside the clubhouse or sail shack, and place three old car tires under each corner or the cats. That's it. We remove the masts and store them safely so no one can steal them.

Where do you sail? Any chance you might visit Ottawa with your 'new' H16? Good sailing here, five clubs above the rapids/dam and three below.

Thanks for the advice. I don't imagine I'll be in the Ottawa area anytime soon. I am out near London, ON. I will probably be putting it in the water at Fanshawe Lake (Man made) in London here with the occasional trip to Lake Huron
