Post subject:  New mast for Prindle 16

My mast has a softball sized ding at the top. I bought it this was from the owner.
I found an old Prindle dealer near my house. He has one item left and it is a never used 16' mast. He's only asking $190.
I went to view it yesterday. He has it hanging horizontally on the outside of his garage (in Minnesota). It looks like it has been out there for quite a few years. However, it has never been used. It's straight, clean and ding free.

Is there anything I should look for on the mast before I go pick it up?

You're going to put a Prindle mast on a Hobie 16?

I own a Prindle 16 (as listed in the subject). Am I not allowed here?

Guess this place isn't very friendly.

btw, Prindles are better.

Comparing the condition of beach cat masts is like comparing apples to apples really, like you said it's straight, clean and ding free.
There are maybe several aspects you can look for specific to a H16 but I have no idea whether they affect the use with a Prindle. I.e. mast base condition, condition of mast stepping link hole, halyard hook etc etc.

On the basis that a Prindle dealer is selling this to you to use on a Prindle I'm guessing it will or can work. If you don't trust his advice maybe find a Prindle forum to ask what considerations need to be made before buying it.

p.s. If Prindles are better why haven't they broken any of the beach cat market?

My father used to say "All beer is good, but some are better than others"

Same applies to Cats.

Thanks for the post.
Prindle has been out of business since 2001.
I believe they never took off because it was a big guy vs. little guy situation. Everybody wanted a Hobie. People didn't give Prindle a chance.
