Maybe I'm just getting old and losing my eyesight but when raising the main I can't see either the hook at the top of the mast or the knurl on the cable to hook them together to save my life thereby making locking them together a hit or miss proposition. Any ideas how to make this easier? I've painted the hook bright pink and the knurl white but this didn't help. Would tying a small ribbon to the halyard be unheard of? I can't be the only guy, fifty something or otherwise, to have encountered this problem. You haven't let me down so far guys can you help? Thanks in advance. |

Seeing it is not important... knowing how it works is. Raise the main fully Pull hard on the halyard line step forward of the mast Center the line on the mast and while holding the tension on the halyard... Bring the halyard back against the mast (on the center line) Ease the tension |

I also cannot see it. Yes I am fifty-something too. Its tricky when the mast is rotated because the wind has moved the sail to one side. If you are having trouble, have the crew bring the boom to center, then the hook is also centered. |

Yeah, I understand how it works but without a visual I have a tough time telling if the main is all the way up or not. I pull out,center the line, push it back towards the mast and slacken the pressure and it doesn't catch. After multiple tries I nervously cleat it off. It feels like swinging blindfolded at a pinata...a visual would help. I can connect better when I can see what I'm swinging at. Thanks for the input again guys. |

Try pushing the sail up the track... then pulling hard on the halyard. Once the sail hits the top... the swedge should easily clear the fork. Centering then easing the tension "should" seat it. You can clearly see that the sail stays hoisted if you get it hooked. Especially when pulling down on the boom. Binoculars? |
