Hi all, after many years of wanting to get into sailing I finally found an H16('s) in my price range. I'm super excited to get out on the water this summer. But I have a question regarding rigging. I bought a pair of H16's for only 400 bucks, my plan is to fix one and use the other as a donor. The white one has good hulls, but a bent mast, the orange one has bad hulls and rigging good enough to get me going. The question is what are the differences between the two for jib controls. The white one has 4 points the orange one has 2. If someone can explain the difference then I can figure out what pieces to swap out. Based on hull & sail color pattern my best guess is the orange is a 1973 and the white is a 1974
Thank you for looking at my project boats! Your expertise is very appreciated. :) :) :)

You just need the adjustable cars that are on both boats. I'm not sure why one of the boats has the inner auto cleats.

Thanks for the feedback Todd! It's good to know I can keep it simple since I'm just starting out. I'll post some pics when I have the hulls swapped out and the mast & sails up. Hoping to get some progress on this project this week after the rain finally stops. I'm in Michigan and the boat will be used south of Mackinaw on Paradise Lake, possibly some shoreline cruising on Lake Michigan once I get some proper training.

If there are sheaves on the front corner castings of the white boat, the extra cleats are for a traveler system like this:

If there aren't any sheaves, then the traveler cars were replaced with the older style at some point. The original system would have been like this:

MBounds, no there are no sheaves on the corner castings. So It must be the original set-up like in the black & white diagram you posted.

The system in the drawing was stock in the early / mid '80s through 1995 when the integrated traveler track was introduced on US boats. It's odd that a system would have '70s traveler cars/cleats with the crossbar mounted cleats that were not used for a traveler car adjustment system.

Thank you again for the information, I have no paperwork on the boats so who knows what year they are. I will try to search for serial numbers on them. In the mean time might as well stick with the version from the 70's to start out with. No clue how to properly use the set-up in the diagram. I assume the 70's version will be okay for beginners?

Hull id numbers, which include the year of the boat are on the transom of the hulls. The vertical face of the back of the hulls where the rudders are.

Hey guys, it's been too long since I posted. Between bad weather, work, and family obligations I FINALLY managed to get some time to work on my H16. A friend helped me step the mast and we rigged the boat for the first time! It was surprisingly easy once we knew where everything was supposed to go. Here is a pic of my pieced together project boat so far.
