Can you recommend a replacement quick pin (the one with the push button to replace the 8020041 CLEVIS PIN 3/16x.570 GRIP found connecting the H16 main blocks to the main traveller? I ask because the main traveller hole is a smaller diameter than the hole on the main blocks. The pin that is in there now has obvious material loss from taking the strain of the main sail. It is a very small pin. Also, do you have a quick pin recomendation to replace the shackle connecting the head of the jib to the jib halyard (or do you recommend using such hardware at that location? Personally, I wouldn't put quick pins in either of these locations, but especially not the jib halyard. Both the locations are high-stress points. Quick pins are not as strong as solid pins or shackles. The jib halyard shackle in particular bears the entire load of holding the mast up when sailing. Failure would cause not only the jib to come down, but also the mast to fall back until it was caught by the forestay. A sudden shock load like that on the forestay could cause it to fail, and then the mast comes down. Even if the forestay doesn't fail, the boat is almost unsailable with lots of mast rake and a very sloppy rig. I used to use a fast pin on my mainsheet, but quit after it kept snagging the traveler line. At least if that one breaks, it's not that big of a deal. You can jury rig the mainsheet fairly quickly on the water. I'd be more worried the quick pin would bend and I wouldn't be able to get it out.

I use a quick pin on the traveler-to-mainsheet connection on my H17 (same setup as the H16). So far the pin has been holding up fine. I like using a quick pin for this connection because it is such a PITA location to try to install a clevis pin & split ring. I install the pin from the aft side of the traveler car and it seems to stay clear of the mainsheet/traveler lines. It is a 3/16" diameter pin (most of the other pins on a Hobie are 1/4" dia). That said, I still carry the original pin on board as a spare just in case the quick pin fails. sm

I had a quick pin on my H16 main sheet to traveller connection until it pulled out in the middle of a race. Never again. It is a pain to rig that one with a clevis/ring-ding, put not as painful as being last for something you could have prevented.
