Notice the "aparatus" holding the forestay off the luff and sail?

How did they do that? Is it worth it?

its a piece of shock cord, we add to keep the forestay from being lose and messing up the jib. I think it is worth doing.

OK, I'm with you on the shock cord to pull tension on the forestay.

How is this done?

What's that 6" or so piece perpindicular to the sail?

It looks like they have added and extra 7 or 10 hole adjuster, we use to do this on older boat before that made the forestay longer, some people still do it to give a little more length simply so they can have a little extra to shock cord back down. The stock forestay is long enough but its hard to get it pulled back off the sail.
