Post subject:  Tips to remove paint covering hull numbers?

Hi All!

Quick question, the hull numbers on the back of the hulls / transom are mostly visible, but a few coats of paint are masking the first part on one hull and the last digit on both hulls. Any tips for removing paint that covers the hull numbers?

Thanks!

The numbers are engraved into the hull with a hand engraver.

Light sanding might bring them out (sand away the paint on the hull surface and not in the engraved part). Use masking tape to protect the area you don't want sanded.

Without knowing the type of paint, it's impossible to recommend a solvent - or if a solvent would even work.

Automotive paint reducer is the least aggressive. Try that first. Take you time allowing the rag to soften the paint. The most aggressive is lacquer thinner. Be careful with lacquer thinner though, as it may soften gel coat if left on too long. Reducer would be the best choice, so just be patient.
