Your harness sounds like an older style one. Ditch it for a new one with a spreader bar in the front takes the load out of your crotch and spreads it to your hips. The "skippers harness" from the Hobie sailing catalog is very comfortable.

The EVA stuff Murray's sells is better - you can get sheets of the stuff in different colors and patterns from the manufacturer - HydroTurf - http://hydroturf.com/products/Sheets_of ... SUP_+_Surf

This stuff is great! bare feet stick to it very well, even better with shoes on. I just can't get the contact cement to stick very well. the bottom edge keeps coming up.
on my boat we use the diaper harness as well, so i'm not too sure what is better but there are lots of options on the Murray site.

Wow, how cool, thanks for sharing, I can do the rigging having seen it, but I doubt I would've ever came up with such a great idea, I can't wait till spring!

I was wondering what is popular and looking for opinions on what you guys like on the side rails for grip when trapped out. honestly so far I sail with some really nice water shoes on, which I think helps and may help when I'm on the bow trying to right my boat also, and what about what kind of harness you wear for trapping, I got a little thing my girlfriend refers to as a diaper lol,(came with the boat) she says it hurts, to me it's okay but it's another thing I'd like some opinion and input on if you would please! Thanks!

I've used cheap, rubber backed floor mats from Home Depot for years. Buy it by the foot (10') and the width is enough to do 2 boats. Glue on with contact cement. They work OK, but stay wet after sailing and they eventually wear out. But they're cheap. How do the linked side rails above hold up to the trapeze rubbing up against them? I still have some old felt fabric which the previous owner had on there, and everytime I hike out the trapeeze wire rubs against it and takes some of the fuzz off. I'll be looking to replace this stuff within a year or so.

Yes it the original I'm pretty sure by the looks and the repairs, I did find a "retro" as they were calling it on ebay full harness and it is much much better, it came with the slot instead of the hook so I put the spreaderbar hook on it.

However, I don't think there's much of anything (maybe, other than rubber backed carpet) that will withstand the wear of your trap return line and even that, will eventually wear out !!!

I never used the carpet type non-skid material. Instead, I used rubber non-skid strips of the type used in bathtubs. It came in rolls about an inch wide or wider with adhesive back. I found that they lasted a long time, were easy and cheap to replace and worked very well especially with cheap rubber wading shoes. The last time I looked for it, I couldn't find it in the hardware store but did find it by doing an on-line search. Since I bought my boat new in '85 and used it for 30 years, I had a lot of experience with that material.

There is a trick to contact. if you are using the "Hydroturf", you need to scuff the backside of it. And really clean the sides of the tramp. Apply your contact to both surfaces. Go drink a beer. Come back, and feel the glue on the frame, done worry about the glue on the turf, it dries faster than on any other surface. Touch the glue, if it is still wet and sticky, go drink another beer. If it is almost dry or dry and does not transfer to your finger. Pick up the turf. Then set it back down, go drink another beer. After you stick the turf, remember once it is stuck it is not good to pull it back loose. Take a rubber mallet and go down the center, then the top and then the bottom hitting the turf. You will learn to use the recoil to your advantage and get a rhythm to it. This helps to fuse the turf to the rail. If the turf it just lightly bonded then it may not stick, hence why you beat the crap out of it. If water it trying to peal it loose, take some 80-100 grit stand paper and sand the edge off down to a 45 degree bevel, This will keep the water from trying to lift the turf up.

Hey Bill..... These are pics of that system. The trap lines are held at 2 inches (+ / -) from the side bars which eliminates the wear on the rail rug which occurs when trapping out. Additionally, it allows for trapping out off the stern without the resistance of being pulled forward that occurs when using the traditional trap return system. I know this might seem like overkill but it makes sailing a lot easier, especially if you sail solo a lot !!! It also makes your boat a lot easier to rig, as the trap return lines are already affixed in place under the trampoline !!! To XXRRacer: In this pic below, I used the material (the black strip just fore and aft the foot strap) you referred to on the stern of each hull. It works really well !!!

Sorry, but this wasn't all my idea !!! The extended bungees was Hobie's idea but they were run inside the side rails and through the trampoline. I thought it was a great idea but it just didn't meet all my needs. After studying the concept for a while, I came up with the modified version which turned out to be a perfect fit for me. It did everything I wanted it to !!!
