Post subject:  CRAM 2016 - The Year of the Hobie 16

I already have these dates posted in the Division 10 sub forum, but I wanted to extend my message here as well. For a long time the Catamaran Racing Association of Michigan has had a lack of a Hobie 16 fleet. 2015 was a big year for us. We grew from a non existent fleet to the second largest within CRAM. While this may be great news for the dedicated racers who are checking the Division 10 sub forum, I also want to share that our fleet is a great opportunity for less experienced sailors as well. We have a lot of rookie sailors in our H16 fleet which has developed an exceptional learning environment for people who never thought they would take their 16 racing.

It's been a well known thought within CRAM that the lack of the Hobie 16 fleet has perpetuated itself. People who may have been interested in bringing their 16 to an event were probably discouraged because they looked and saw no active 16s racing and thought that CRAM wasn't for them. Well that has all changed. As the 2016 Hobie 16 fleet captain I can say with a fair bit of confidence that we can expect at least 4 boats, the minimum we require to race a dedicated H16 fleet, at every regatta this year, although we expect to see many more, especially through the mid summer regattas.

I really encourage anyone within driving distance to consider coming to any of our regattas. Speaking from my experience, with 2015 being my first season with them, the people of CRAM are some of the best people you can ever meet. The Hobie 16 fleet itself is building a reputation of being exceptionally helpful in trying to make sure everyone can get out and sail, from helping everyone setup and launch to sharing that one spare part that is a must to make it on the water.

Hope to see you out there

I am really looking forward to racing my 16 at a couple of events this year! I have been very much enjoying being crew on other boats and race committee, but late last year we had a slew of older H16s start showing up, that I feel I at least have a competitive boat, no matter how old it is. It's going to be a great year!
