I broke a rudder off my 75 h16. A friend of mine who lives a few hours away has a rudder he thinks will work. Looking at the pics, I'm not sure they are the same. Can anyone offer advice looking at these pics? Here is the non broken rudder off my boat. ![]() Here is the rudder he has for me. They don't look quite the same but I don't know if thats just the angle of the pic. ![]() |

My guess is that the second image is of an aftermarket / fiberglass rudder. It will work, but you may have a different feel from one tack to the other. Looks to have been drilled for a Hobie 18. |

Would the 3rd lower hole be for the hobie 18? Should the top two holes work for the 16? |

Top two would be from an older Hobie 18... 1986 or older. |

Raking Rudders Correcting Helm on a Hobie 16 by Bill Mattson in Volume 2 issue 7 of On The Wire shows how to fill in and re-drill the holes in a rudder. I have followed his method on several Lexan rudders and used JB Weld to fill in the holes while the rudders were flat with a piece of masking tape on the bottom. I do not have a drill press but have used a piece off of one of my broken rudders with a hole already drilled (for maximum rake) in it that I clamped to the rudder, so it would act as a guide for the drill bit of my hand held electric drill. http://www.catsail.com/archives/v2-i7/feature3.htm ![]() |
