Add a seven or ten hole adjuster to the existing one at the bridle.

Hi, Have bought new shrouds wich were shorter than owr originals (218¨instead of 242¨) . We've come out with and idea using the new cables relocating the mast Tang 14¨down the mast. Does it sound reasonable or feasible ? thanks for your help Carlos The Cat is a 1980 - 82 wich come out with the mast also. |

cdassov, Absolutely not. Went through the same thing with my 85 H16. You should be able to make any adjustments required to step the mast with the shroud and forestay adjusters. I bought the new shrouds from Hobie. With the old shrouds, I would put the pin in the third hole from the bottom of the shroud adjuster. Of course, there was no mast rake but with the new shrouds, I would put the pin in the third hole from the top of the adjuster. This gave me an adequate amount of mast rake and stepping it was still no problem. Unless there's something uniquely different about our boats, you should not have to move your mast tang. That doesn't even sound practical (xtra holes in mast, trap wire length, race legality, jib position, all that sort of stuff). Just too much to consider. Moreover, that dosen't even sound fair. David What if I tell you I am living in Perú far from every standard supplier an I also have corrosion in my mast at the same area of the mast tang ? John yu're right the new shrouds are 228 that makes a difference of 14¨ with the older ones. I should fabricate-make a 10 to 14´ plate extension in inox and add it to the existing one. cdassov Aw man . . . . . . bummer!!!! And to think I was complaining about the nearest Hobie dealer being almost 100 miles from me. Corrosion on your mast??? How'd that happen? Well, I guess you know what's next. If there's anything I can do, let me know. Happy Sailing, David |
