I was surprised the search came up empty (or I didn't look for the right keywords) Anyone made a simple system to get their hobie 16 up about 2 feet on rocky bank? Been considering a few things such as plywood ramp or something like that, or even using beachwheels to get to the bank and then pulling the boat up over the rocks coming off the beachwheel. Trying to do this with just 1 person most of the time. (I don't have a boat lift) Appreciate any ideas.... |

Ultimate? I was back in New York years ago. Dealer had a bulkhead at hi house, so worse than what you have. Made a wood ramp. Used cat wheels, but key was power. They mounted a winch and had a remote control. Hook up and haul it out. |

we had some major erosion on our beach last year (lake Superior). An old rock wall (previously berried) was exposed below where I'd been keeping my boat. Last spring it went from a gentle slope to a 4-5 foot drop, then slope to the water. I put a couple 4x6 posts in the ground with a lot of cement, up on the hillside and mounted a power winch to it. I then built two ramps with homemade pvc rollers. It worked OK. The winch was great, but the ramps were a bit dodgey. This year I'm going to try beach wheels on flat boards for ramps and see how that works. With the winch I was able to move my boat around solo at least though. |

Thanks Matt. Coreboarder, based on Matt's reply, I was going to make pretty much what you are planning. Plywood ramps (with a little cement in it so they stay in place. Then manual winch mounted on a post cemented into the ground on shore, and pull it up by the beach wheel axle. Northern Tool does have an electric winch that hooks up to car battery with remote for around 70$ so if the manual winch ends up being a hassle I might try that option. |
