Post subject:  Cleaning sails?

Howdy,

Yesterday I decided to try to clean a set of tequila sunrise sails. They are in rough rough shape and I figured it wouldn't hurt to try to clean them up a bit. So I threw the main in the bathtub with warm water and a couple scoops of oxi clean. Let them soak for about 6 hours then I got in and rinsed them with clean water from the shower head. They appear much cleaner! It even seemed to take out our lighten some old satians.

Now my question is, is this safe too do on newer better sails? I have 2 more suits that could use sprucing up, but I don't want to risk ruining them.

Will oxi clean strip the coating? Or degrade the stitching? Seems like if you use it on your clothes it wouldn't be too bad for sails but I figured I'd double check.

Thanks for the insight,

Nathan

Oxiclean is safe, bleach is NOT

Whink Rust Stain Remover at Ace Hardware and others. Use sparingly, scrub lightly with a cloth and rinse well...do not allow the remover to set on the sail for more than a couple minutes and rinse thoughly. Repeat if needed.
