Post subject: | Crack in Hull |
Hello all, I'm looking at buying a H16 and the one I'm looking at has a crack in the hull. Seeing how major this would be when buying a boat, or how difficult the repair would be. Thanks in advance for your guys insight. The crack is on the top of the left hull, and looks to be about 2 feet long. It's a 1985 boat, so I assume cracks/normal wear and tear are normal. I will upload a picture when I get to a computer. SR |

Without actually seeing it, it's hard for anyone to assess your hull's situation. I just bought a H16 with cracks along the top / deck of the port hull. The previous owner had a sever smack to the port hull just forward of the forward pylon. Chips in the rail (not hard to fix and only cosmetic) but, construction of the hulls allows them to flex a bit... not so the decks. So being old, no doubt with some water issues, the deck delaminated and the gel coat cracked. Made it easy to get a good deal as the past owner didn't want to do the work. Have you tried to push downward on the cracked area? If it feels soft and easily flexes, it's probably delamed. Not the end of the world. There is a ton of info on the www about fixing that. |
