I just purchased a set of H16 sails from a guy in Florida who never put the sails up the mast. Sail # is 114xxx, so I know they he had them on hand for a couple years. His hulls delaminated before he ever got to use the sails. I ran the sails up my mast last weekend and noticed that a couple of the batten luff caps were sticking out kind of funny. Pulled the sail down and found at least 3 caps were split. Never had a problem like this in the past 22 years of sailing Hobies with new and old sails. What gives? |

It happens from time to time. There was also apparently a batch of luff protectors from a few years ago that were made using an inferior plastic and were prone to breaking.
