since i was redoing my tramp I decided to do a little poking around to see if I could get my crossbars looking any better cause they are REALLY faded from the sun. I found a place that will re annodize them black for me for $50.00 (score!). My question is this, is it a pain in the behind to disassemble and reassemble the crossbars to the boat? I do have a lot of equipment so drilling out the rivets shouldnt be that big of a deal but what is it like getting them out of the corner castings or more important refitting them? Any help is appreciated. Thanks Cory |

why go through all the trouble and expense for black crossbars? is there some benefit other than cosmetic? |

Nothing other than cosmetic. I know, it's a little shallow but I want my rig to be in tip top and look in tip top too. Latr Cory |

I just replaced all the rivets in the corner castings and removed them from the crossmembers to clean them out before re-riveting....its easy...drill....use a center punch/hammer to push them thru and slide the casting off.... for 50$$ I would do the new annodizing....go for it |

There is on major advantage to not having black anno frame pieces. In the hot sun during the summer the frame pieces get really hot after a while, especially in light air days or after sitting on the beach. It might be nice to not have the back of your thighs burned... Just a thought. |

Good thought on the fried thighs but vanity won out over comfy, cool thighs. They are at the shop being redone right now. After drilling out the rear crossbar/ track rivets, I noticed that my rivet gun wont get to the bottom of the track to rerivet it into place. What tool should I use to re rivet the track? misfit, You have to get the right nose piece to do it correctly, but a quick and dirty way to do it is to get whats called a "stop sleeve". It's the little thing crimped to the main halyard of your 16. Put the rivet in the hole as you normally would. Put the stop sleve over the mandrel Place gun on rivet and pop. You may have to grind the stop sleeve so that your gun can grab the mandrel, sometimes they're too thick. When you pop the rivet the sleeve may go flting, so get a couple of extra ones. They usually come in packs of 3 anyway. |

we use littel washers or a small nut to get down in the track. Insert rivet, put small nut on rivet shaft, pull the rivet like you normaly do. |
