Post subject:  Rigging help main sheet block
little back round to help you understand, just picked up a h16 and rigged it as far as I could to see what I need to get sailing it was bought from a guy when never sailed it and he bought if from a self proclaimed questionable sail boat enthusiast, I have been just using information off the internet, but i'm stumped on my main sheet block, Or so I think its called. as far as i can tell from its pulley function it should be mounted up side down or there should be a down pulley behind it, check pictures and and advice will be appreciated. :D

Try running the mainsheet UNDER the pulley, not over as you now have it rigged.

Have you downloaded the H16 Manual?

Are there any other H16's near you?

John's suggestion can be easily implemented by just turning the lower block over (it's upside down).

But that mainsheet system is not meant for a Hobie 16 anyway. It looks like the original system that came on a Hobie 14 from 1968.

I'd look on eBay for a system (6:1) appropriate for a Hobie 16.

there is no room to run the rope under the pulley do to the spring loaded device which locks the pulley under load, also if you turn it upside down the cam cleat bracket is no where near a usable angle, even with the small ablity to adjust it.

I agree it looks like a h14 sheet block the reason I didn't think it was the wrong way is the pins were the correct size but on closer inspection it appears the smaller pin was installed in on the traveler side because of noticeable wear in the eye. So for now I want to run it as is to make sure all is well with the hulls which i have done some repair before I sink to much cash into this rig.

Problems:
1) It's upside down (really!).
2) It's the wrong block for what you want to use it for, since you can't adjust the cleating angle properly.

Solutions:
1) Turn the block over so it works like it's supposed to, remove the cleat and develop killer biceps while working the main.
2) Get the right block for the job and enjoy your boat a lot more.
