Post subject:  Aft Crossbeam and Traveler

I am trying to upgrade my traveler system so that it will work a little better. I was thinking of trying to find a black anodized aft crossbeam that would have the larger rollers on the traveler and perhaps work better. Now I am finding that all black anodized crossbeams are not equal. It looks like some have the integrated track that came with the larger roller traveler and some just have the same separate track riveted on and the same size traveler rollers. Is this correct? I maybe stuck with what I have and have to use the main sheet all the time to depower. Slower, but effective. Thanks all.

I am not familiar with the different traveler types, but would suspect that Hobie produced only two, and they are the ones that you mention. I have the integrated track (2007 H16). At the windward mark, I am able to let out on the traveler, but am also letting out on the main sheet at the same time. However, I have been on points of sail where I could uncleat the traveler but it would not move due to the pressure from the main. I regularly spray the traveler with dry lube, but my hardware might be old, so take it for what it is worth - I am not sure that the main traveler is completely effective for power/depower of the main on this boat.

Hobie Cat made two types of traveler track - the original (shallow) and the deep profile track that will accommodate the larger traveler rollers.

You can retro-fit an old rear crossbeam with the new track so you can use the newer travelers, but you've got to drill and replace a bunch of rivets.

The integrated track crossbeam only uses the newer travelers. It was introduced in the mid-90s and makes a lot of sense from a production / usability standpoint.

So now the question is, if I can find an integrated track black anodized crossbeam, will it fit my old bare aluminum corner fittings? anyone?
