Post subject:  Black Numbers on Mainsail repair

I am using a spare mainsail while the boltrope is being repaired on my other mainsail and I noticed several of the stitched on black letters are coming apart on the spare. There are rips and cracks on a couple of the numbers.

Anyone have a cheap repair solution before they get any worse?

Thank you.

Use a seam ripper to carefully cut the stitches and then remove the numbers.

After you remove the old ones, get some insignia cloth and replace them IF you need them on the mainsail. You can buy insignia cloth at sailmakersupply.com. Basically it is stick on dacron. Great stuff for numbers as well as sail repairs.

How old is that sail if it has stitched on numbers? The numbers on my 1984 sail are not stitched on.

They weren't stitched on at the factory. Hobie Cat has never stitched the numbers on Hobie 16 sails.
