I recently purchased a hobie 16, and was looking for ideas on how to keep it off the ground in the yard. I've seen pictures of people building platforms with trailer rollers for the hills to rest on. Any suggestions? |

I may not understand your question. Do you have a trailer for it. I store mine on my trailer. I have been doing some trailer maintenance and replacing rollers and stuff, but that is the only time besides sailing when it is not on the trailer. |

I had some old play set anchors that I put pressure-treated 2 x 4s across with pads on the end for the hulls for when I needed the boat off the trailer for any length of time (3 boats, 2 trailers - it happens). This isn't rocket science. Pretty much anything that elevates the hulls off the ground will work. Depends on how much you want to spend and how good you want it to look. |

I also have more boats than trailers. I built a rack using old trailer crossbars (although 2x4's would also work). I sunk 4" x 4" pressure treated posts in the ground at each of the four corners (spaced about 10' long x 6' wide). Then 2" x 6" x 10's running front to back screwed into the posts provide fore/aft stability and the trailer crossbars are lag bolted on top of the posts to support the boat. The crossbars on the rack sit at roughly the same height as the crossbars on the road trailer which makes transfering the boat on and off the trailer pretty easy. And the boat is high enough that it stays clean (nothing will make your hulls dirty quicker than sitting them on the ground in a rain storm) and plenty of clearance for weed whacking, etc. It has been working well for the past four years. sm |
