Post subject:  Change Hobie 16 Hulls to another Hobie 16

I am in the process of changing the hulls on my 1969, sail # 950, Hobie 16. The side stay pulled out on my old hull, so I decided to keep our original vintage 16 and put newer hulls on that are stiff. I recently bought a Hobie 16 from 1976 to swap hulls.... getting the hulls off was somewhat of a pain seeing they had never been off in some 47 years... Now that I have them off getting the newer hulls back in place is turning out to be an equal pain... Is there any trick that you all might have other than putting a 2 x 4 on the top of the casing and pounding with a big dead blow sledge hammer...Thanks in advance for your answers.

I just removed and remounted my hulls. When they were off, I used a 3" wire wheel on a drill to clean the pylons thoroughly. I gave them a very quick shot of clear coat since I'm in the salt. 3 corners slid right on and the 4th took a few light taps.

Howdy! My "Jackie" is a 1979 H16 that was cobbled together from a few other boats. Picked her up for $20 and went to work... In addition to replacing a lot of parts and the mast, one of the hulls was damaged beyond realistic repair. Was able to find another H16 bound for the scrap pile and take her one good hull to compliment the good hull on mine. Easily to pull apart and reassemble. All is now painted the same color and you would never know that my rudders, hulls and even mast are from multiple boats. While I'll not be competing in any races, she's definitely a fun boat.
