Post subject:  Replacing shock cord on H20 Style Connectors

Any one ever replace the shock cord on H20 style connectors without removing all the rivets on the tiller arms?

Thinking I might tie a string to the fitment end and try to drop it back down the tiller arm torwards the upper casting. Connect the new cord with a knot in the end and then pull it back through.

Anyone got any better thoughts or done this before that could share some experience?

TIA!

On my boats, the shock cord runs straight through the tiller arm and comes out the bottom where it's knotted. Not exactly the cleanest looking, but it's easy to fix.

On my 14 that got retrofitted with the 20-style connectors, I made the bottom hole large enough so the knot slips inside the tube. You can see examples of both in the "This Old Hobie" article in this HOTLINE - https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B21oE ... 0lBNHkyM2s

Brilliant!! Sometimes you just need to look a the problem from the other side!

Thank you!

Btw...any idea how long the piece of shock cord is? Mine is totally stretched out.

I dunno - maybe 4 to 6 inches? It's a scrap piece. Or a piece of an old trap shock cord.
