I have been sailing my H16 as much as I can this summer and I am getting used to some of the differences between it and the 470's I grew up sailing. One big difference is around the launch. I have found that it is easier to set up the mast with the boat on the trailer, then put the boat in the water, drag it on foot to a beachy area near the ramp an put up the sails. The problem that I have is that there is not always a great beachy area next to the ramps. Should I just put the sails on but not raise them? I worry about the jib getting caught in the trailer as I back down the ramp. |

You can tie the jib is a loose bundle to keep it from dragging. |

I am completely rigged before backing down the ramp. I raise the mainsail after I am in the water, like you mentioned on a "beachy" area. Sometimes I have to paddle a ways to get to somewhere that I can do this. I have never been successful with raising the main while on the water. I am usually standing in the water when I raise the main also. Whatever it takes. |

When there's no beach I usually raise the jib before launching and then if I can't raise the main I do it as soon as we're away from the ramp. Of course this depends on the wind. In real life I hardly ever have to raise the main while on the water, but I pretty much always have the jib up and the main started. |
